WHAT IS A KOLACHE?
A Kolache is a Czech breakfast pastry made from sweet bread and is eaten by hand like a doughnut or Danish. Traditional Kolaches are filled with fruit or cream cheese. Traditional Klobasniky (pronounced KLO-BAAS-NICKY) are made from the same sweet bread but filled with sausage and cheese. At PSK, we use the term “Kolache” to mean either of these two delicious morsels. Over the centuries in Texas, Kolaches have become part of our heritage and evolved to include influences from an array of cultures. Today kolaches truly are the Texan alternative to bagels, doughnuts, and other breakfast choices.
